LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Are You Waking Up to an Alarm or a Calling?

Meaning and purpose in life are always among the top concerns for any thoughtful person seeking to discover why they were created. The apostle Paul answers this question when speaking to the Stoic and Epicurean philosophers, who were themselves dealing with similar questions on Mars' Hill in Acts 17:27. Paul says people are situated in their environment “so that they should seek the Lord, in hope that they might grope for Him and find Him.” Thankfully, we have already responded to the Holy Spirit’s call for salvation, but some are still being called to further study and ministry. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to wake each day and serve God within our families, workplace, and among our neighbors, yet despite these treasured and valuable moments some often experience a sense of dissatisfaction or even frustration. There appears to be no reason for why this occurs, after all, we are accomplishing the great commission to make disciples and teaching them the Christian way. Perhaps this sense of lack or dissatisfaction is due to the fact that ministry always comes to an end, or from a sense that there is always more that could be said or done in our testimony to the world. More often, however, it may be a result of hitting the snooze button on God’s calling on your life to deeper study and complete yielding to how God may want to use you in different ways, ways you most likely have written off as impossible. Most of us know from experience that waking up to God’s calling each day, which may be different for each one of us, is far superior to waking up to an alarm. The former is a living internal call by the Holy Spirit offering eternal benefits and a sense of freedom and purpose, the latter is an artificial external call which leads to frustration and dissatisfaction with the status quo. If you desire to know Christ through the study of His Word in a flexible and casual atmosphere, and explore God’s calling on your life, then take the step of faith and see what God will do during your time at Veritas!

Until the whole world hears!
